Handler moved from the city of her birth to Los Angeles when she was 19, in order to pursue a career in acting. To help support her family, Handler began to work as an actress. Handler aged 21 years of age, decided to focus on stand-up comics full time after discovering her storytelling skills. Handler started her stand-up career on her role on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Badly which was a reality program with a hidden-camera/practical comedy. Between 2002 and 2005, the show was aired. The handler then began appearing in other programs such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler started working for The Tonight Show as a reporter. Handler gained notoriety in 2006 by hosting her E! show. The show was named the Chelsea Handler Show. The Chelsea Handler Show lasted two years. Handler was a part of Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour the next season throughout the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all broadcast her stand-up comedy shows. In 2010 the MTV Video Music Awards 2010 were made public. As a result, she was the only female host to be announced in the same category as Roseanne.
